Microsofts E3 Briefing 2019 was bound to be a little packed what with upfront announcements and hype and it squared up to involve 60 games of which 14 were by Microsoft Studios and 34 games were bound for Game Pass from launch.
There was also during the presentation, a new studio announced, creators of Psychonauts 2 ‘Double Fine’ were added to the list (who cheekily mentioned several AAA titles like Forza they would be more than happy to work on)
So apart from the above, here is what else we know.
Firstly, Game Pass is evolving. Microsoft announced an ‘Ultimate’ Pass, giving Xbox Live as well as both Xbox and PC combined game passes (yes you heard me right, PC Game Pass has gone in Beta TODAY).
Halo which was 1 of 2 heavy hitters was announced alongside Project Scarlett (the next gen console) for Holidays 2020, question is… which holidays huh?
CyberPunk 2077, the one I have been waiting to hear about, featured Keanu Reeves giving us the rundown on the game alongside the video presentation and this was also announced with a release date of April 16th 2020.
Other game release dates given were:-
- Star Wars Fallen Order – November 15th 2019
- Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga (7 film combo) – 2020

- Gears of War 5 (with new Escape mode and Horde) – September 10th 2019
- Dying Light 2 – Spring 2020

- Phantasy Star 2 Online – 2020 #SEGA
- Tales of Arise – 2020

- Minecraft Dungeons – 2020

- Batman Arkham Knight (available now)
- Metro Exodus (available now)
- Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (available now)
- Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition (available now)
- Age of Empires 2

- Way to the Woods
This was amongst a plethora of others dropped in at speed due to being many indie titles.
Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring was also announced as a new game for Xbox and PC alongside Blair Witch which looked visually amazing but no further details were given regarding release date or Game Pass.
So just switching back to hardware, Microsoft said that Project Scarlett will lead a plan to lose all load screens (or drastically reduce wait times) and is benchmarked as 4X more powerful than Xbox One (not sure if they mean 2013 model or X version), the SSD is 40 times faster than Xbox One standard HDD and will double up as virtual RAM to give more screen depth and better visuals, will be equipped with GDDR6 memory as well as hardware supported ray tracing.
Here’s their own announcement
Native 4K at 60 FPS, up to 120 FPS
Next gen SSD = 40x faster than current consoles
Hardware accelerated ray tracing
Games, accessories and career come with you
The Ultimate Game Pass sounds amazing too, especially for those who have the capabilities to utilise PC such as myself. Finally, I may be justified in building this 4K i9 beast lol.
Overall, it was a pretty impressive bunch of announcements with shocks coming from the Phantasy Star 2 camp as well as the next gen news. What holidays do we book off to sample next gen delights though? Stay tuned!
